A space for siblings of people with Down syndrome

Home 9 Plus One

Sibling relationships are often some of the longest in our lives.

Research tells us that siblings of people with Down syndrome often value these relationships deeply. We hear that too, but it’s not the whole story.

Alongside love and connection, sibling relationships can also be complex, challenging, and at times overwhelming.

Many of us carry worries about the future, family responsibilities, and what happens when support needs change.

Yet there are few spaces to talk openly about these realities with people who truly understand.

Plus One is a new NZDSA project for siblings of people with Down syndrome aged 18+.

Led by sibling and disability sector professional Siobhan Vaccarino, Plus One offers online workshops where siblings can connect, share the good, bad and wild realities, and explore the topics that keep us up at night.

Workshops will be shaped by the group’s interests and provide a safe, supportive space for honest conversation and practical learning.
