Jessica Waters
Social Media and Information Officer
My name is Jess and I have been priveleged to be employed part time by the NZDSA for the last 7 years.
My oldest sister, Rochelle, has Down Syndrome which has meant I have basically grown up in the Down Syndrome community with her.
My parents were both very active in the disability scene which in some sense motivated me to do the same.
Outside of work I am a volunteer for Special Olympics and have been for the last 7 years, mainly coaching swimming.
I am also very lucky and get to attend the NZDSA funshops as a support buddy which I absolutely love. I get to see first hand just how capable people with Down Syndrome are, whether it be seeing them participate actively in meetings or hearing about their work stories and love lives. People with Down Syndrome bring so much joy everywhere they go, we could all learn a thing or two from them!
